Farm Safety

General safety

Before mounting, or even approaching any horse, you must accept that riding is a risk sport.

Your choice to ride is voluntary. We always take care to provide suitable and safe horses and ponies for our customers, but like all animals, horses can be unpredictable.

Everyone visiting Roundknowe Farm is asked to pay careful attention at all times to the horses around them. Never turn your back on a horse which is close to you, nor shout, scream, or make sudden movements, as any of these actions can cause a horse to 'spook'.

We insist that all riders at Roundknowe Farm wear British Standard (BSEN 1384, ASTM F1163) protective riding hats, which are provided for all lessons and riding activities, but strongly advise you to take out full personal accident insurance.

Please read our full Safety notes, available on request from the Farm Shop.

Children on the Farm

Due to several reasons, not least safety, insurance, and the fact that Roundknowe Farm is A WORKING FARM, we have found it necessary to introduce the following rules regarding the presence of children on the Farm.

CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 10 YEARS ARE NOT ACCEPTED at Roundknowe Farm WITHOUT the full-time supervision of a parent or other adult guardian AND the agreement of management.

Children aged 10+ years MUST BE SIGNED IN AND OUT OF THE FARM BY A PARENT, and are ONLY accepted with the agreement of management AND on the basis that they are wearing suitable footwear, are taking riding lessons at Roundknowe Farm, and they are fully aware of the dangers of being in close proximity to horses.

Children aged 13+ years are only accepted if they have made PRIOR ARRANGEMENTS with management to do voluntary work at the Farm.

Children are NOT permitted to bring friends with them. The above rules apply to ALL youngsters on the Farm. Parents will be contacted to come and remove immediately any children found to be on the Farm contrary to the above rules.
